The Learning Source
The Learning Source – the latest enterprise of Community Opportunity and Innovation Networks (C.O.I.N) is launching in September of 2008 and ensures that the residents of Peterborough County will have access to a wide range of affordable leisure, fitness and skill-enhancing learning opportunities.
Based on our philosophy that healthy communities are learning communities, C.O.I.N. is excited about potential of The Learning Source to contribute to enhanced success for students, healthier and more active community members and stronger social networks as people unite together around common learning interests.
COIN has been working indirectly on the idea for a couple of years. A Feasibility Study was completed in June 2007, and a Business and Marketing Plan (with support from the Peterborough Community Development Corporation) was completed in early January. An application was submitted to the Trillium Foundation for start-up support on November 1st, 2007 and COIN received word that this application had been approved shortly thereafter.
The Learning Source is dedicated to empowering participants to learn new things, build upon existing skills, make new friendships and foster a more positive local community. Working with local businesses and organizations as partners, The Learning Source will be a catalyst for community information, participation and action.
